What Is A Stock Chart Pattern? Charts are used to visually illustrate the price action of an underlying stock (or any financial trading instrument). When price action repeats itself consistently, it can form an almost predictive pattern based on history. This is called a chart pattern. On a very basic level stock chart patterns are a way of viewing a series of price actions which occur during a stock trading period. It can be over any time frame – monthly, weekly, daily and intra-day. The great thing about chart patterns is that they tend to repeat themselves over and over again.
